Let me introduce you to the lesser long-nosed bat. These nectar-lovin’ little cuties help pollinate saguaro cacti (blooms pictured) and blue agave plants (so if you’re a tequila drinker, tip your hat to these pretty babies now). While we don’t have this type of bat in North Carolina, bats are prevalent, and it is one of my very favorite activities to watch the sky darken on summer evenings and the dark shapes swooping through the trees, munching on bugs.
